After a lot of eating and essential insight from some Maui locals, here is my definitive list of best restaurants in Lahaina.
As you may or may not know by now, eating is one of my absolute favorite parts of traveling. I love getting the taste of what makes each place unique and indulging in the local cuisine. Lahaina was no exception and after narrowing down my top places to eat, it’s safe to say I may have indulged too much. It was all in the name of proper investigative journalism, right?
Lahaina Grill: for an upscale dinner
127 Lahainaluna Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761 $$$$
If you are going to choose one place to splurge, this is it. A front street mainstay since 1990, Lahaina Grill has earned MANY awards and accolades over the years for its exceptional food and service. Apart from the beautiful space and very attentive staff, the meal alone is worth the hefty price tag.
Aloha Mixed Plate: for classic Hawaiian cuisine
1285 Front St Lahaina, HI 96761 $$
This local favorite will have you wondering why you never considered mac salad as a go to side dish. As the name suggests, they are known for the mixed plates, which come with a variety of flavorful meats and fish with traditional Hawaiian sides. You can get a full meal (and belly) for as little as $10, not to mention the open air patio sits right on the ocean.
Paia Fish Market Lahaina: for local fresh fish
632 Front St Lahaina, HI 96761 $$
Not only does Paia Fish Market serve up some of the freshest and tastiest fish on the island, they are also dedicated to supporting local fishermen and farmers – so your tastebuds will thank you and you can feel good about spending your money here. The portions are generous, the prices are low, and the people here treat you like family.
Sunrise Cafe: for local breakfast spot
693A Front St Lahaina, HI 96761 $
You will fall in love with this little gem. It’s a family owned cafe where you can get homemade breakfast classics and hawaiian specialities for a great price. The service can be a little slow, since they cater to a more local crowd but the food and the vibe is definitely worth the wait. Make sure you get their extra early if you want their infamous cinnamon rolls because they WILL run out.
Thai Chef: for something different
878 Front St Ste A-12 Lahaina, HI 96761 $$
It’s no surprise that much of the local flavor is asian inspired but I have to say that the authenticity of Thai Chef caught be completely off guard. Another local favorite, this award winning restaurant has been serving the community since 1985. If you have even the slightest love for thai food, you need to pay this spot a visit.
Ono Gelato: for dessert
815 Front St Lahaina, HI 96761 $
If you google best “ice cream in Maui” you will get a ton of places claiming to be the best, but make no mistake about it, Ono Gelato is the one. Everything is made from locally sourced ingredients and they even have back patio where you can sit and enjoy your gelato while watching the sunset. Make sure you try their “Sandy Beach” flavor. You can thank me later.
Flatbread Pizza Company: for pizza *honorable mention*
89 Hana Hwy Paia, HI 96779 $$
Okay, so this pizza place is not exactly in Lahaina. Well, let me tell you this place is 100% worth the drive. They grow their ingredients with local farms and make a classically delicious pie with some creative Hawaiian twists. Just trust me on this one. I just couldn’t help but add it to the list.
That’s it for the best restaurants in Lahaina. Happy eating my friends.
